Trading Hub Europe GmbH (THE) is the joint market area operator for the German gas market. Founded in 2021 by the transmission system operators bayernets GmbH, Fluxys TENP GmbH, GASCADE Gastransport GmbH, Gastransport Nord GmbH, Gasunie Deutschland Transport Services GmbH and NaTran Deutschland GmbH (formerly GRTgaz Deutschland GmbH), the company is headquartered in Düsseldorf and bundles the market functions previously performed by NCG and GASPOOL. Its scope of responsibilities includes balancing group and balancing energy management, operation of the Virtual Trading Point (VTP), settlement of the levy accounts, conversion management as well as transparency and market area publications. In addition, THE develops structures for the hydrogen market (H2 market area), operates the Gas Security Platform (SSBO) for security of supply, and provides customer portals for balancing group managers, VTP participants and transmission system operators. The managing directors are Torsten Frank and Dr. Sebastian Kemper. In addition to its headquarters on the EUREF Campus in Düsseldorf, THE maintains an office in Berlin. It is a service provider in the energy industry; no industrial manufacturing takes place.
