Watch manufactory with in-house production
Tutima is a watch manufactory based in Glashütte (Saxony) that develops and manufactures mechanical wristwatches. The company was founded in 1927 as Uhren-Rohwerke-Fabrik Glashütte AG (UROFA) and Uhrenfabrik Glashütte AG (UFAG) by Dr. Ernst Kurtz; the Tutima brand derives from the Latin word for 'safe, protected'. After the destruction of the Glashütte plant in 1945, the company made a new start in Ganderkesee; since May 14, 2008, Tutima has been producing again in its own manufactory at Altenberger Straße 6 in Glashütte. In-house movements are manufactured, such as the Caliber 617 with 166 individual components, produced on CNC machine tools and traditionally finished by hand. In-house assemblies include the mainspring barrel, gear train and oscillation system; the Tutima 521 chronograph caliber is based on the ETA Valjoux 7750 and is patent pending. Products include pilot chronographs, including the Military Chronograph ref. 798, named the official NATO pilot's watch in 1984, as well as the HOMMAGE minute repeater. Cases are made, among other things, from titanium.
