About Unbound Potential

Unbound Potential AG is an energy storage company based in Thalwil near Zurich that develops and manufactures membraneless redox-flow battery systems for stationary long-duration energy storage. The technology uses two immiscible, water-based and non-flammable electrolytes and completely dispenses with membranes in the cell stack; as a result, the stack is reduced to two robust components and can be produced cost-efficiently using established industrial processes. Design, prototyping and assembly of the systems take place locally at the Thalwil facilities. Areas of application include industrial companies with PV systems, grid operators and energy traders, logistics providers with e-truck fleets, energy-intensive operations such as data centers, as well as off-grid applications such as offshore wind. The system is designed for more than 20,000 cycles and up to 85% round-trip efficiency. After its founding in January 2023, the company secured a total of €14.4 million in funding and venture capital; the first containerized storage system is scheduled to go into operation in Thalwil by mid-2026.
