About us

The sawmill Valentin Schmidt V. in Schlitz-Hartershausen (East Hesse, between the Vogelsberg and the Rhön) is a family business run in its fourth generation since 1912. The company produces sawn timber from domestic softwoods such as pine, larch and spruce: boards, planks, square timbers, laths, shuttering boards, waney-edge boards and solid structural timber (KVH). In addition to its own sawing, the sawmill offers contract sawing of roundwood up to 6 m in length and 60 cm in diameter for forest owners, businesses and private individuals, including stacking and drying of the sawn timber. In the on-site timber trade, construction timber to list and other product ranges are delivered to order. Since 2002, the Holzinsel (wood island) has complemented the offering: a retail shop with toys, handicrafts, household goods and nativity figurines as well as custom-made wooden items such as breakfast boards, wall plates and signs made from bark-edged boards with name engraving.
