About the project
Veddel-Bilder is a private, non-commercial project by Dieter Thal documenting the history of Hamburg's Veddel district. It is not an industrial enterprise; no components are manufactured. At the heart of the project is the Veddeler Erzählcafe, a monthly meeting place attended mainly by older residents, where memories, photos, reports and bequests are collected and archived. From this, an extensive Veddel archive has been built up, which is prepared for lectures, exhibitions, reports and publications. The website veddel-bilder.de provides historical pictorial material on the railway station, the Elbe bridges, churches, schools, the fire brigade, the 1962 flood, and the shipyard and industrial history of Veddel. For health reasons, the operator is looking for a successor to organize the Erzählcafe and the archive.
