VersorgungsBetriebe Elbe GmbH is a regional energy and water utility with locations in Lauenburg/Elbe (Schleswig-Holstein) and Boizenburg/Elbe (Mecklenburg-Vorpommern). The company supplies private and business customers with electricity (including green power), natural gas, district heating and drinking water, and is active in wastewater disposal. In addition, VBE offers heat contracting, charging infrastructure and charging cards for electromobility, free Wi-Fi in both towns as well as fibre optic connections for high-speed internet. Its roots go back to the first German-German municipal utility, founded in 1990 by the partner towns of Boizenburg and Lauenburg; the present GmbH was established in 2008. The utility operates and renovates its network infrastructure, operates the Nord combined heat and power plant, a solar park in Lauenburg, and continuously invests in the expansion of district heating, biogas supply and the fibre optic network. The company also includes VersorgungsBetriebe Elbe Media GmbH as well as the Lauenburg outdoor pool with swimming courses.
