About VTN – Die Härtereien

The VTN Group is a medium-sized company in the heat treatment of metals with four plants in Germany: Witten Herbede, Witten Annen, Bielefeld and Wilthen. The range of services includes vacuum hardening, nitriding and nitrocarburizing, low-pressure carburizing, case hardening and carbonitriding, quenching and tempering, as well as hardening and tempering. In addition, the group offers induction hardening in the HF, MF and ZF frequency ranges, with the matching inductors for induction heating developed and built in-house. Metallic workpieces are treated from small parts to large components such as landing gear of passenger aircraft. Customers come from among others mechanical engineering, automotive, medical technology, agricultural industry, tool and die making, aerospace and environmental technologies. Since the end of 2015, the VTN Group has been part of IHI Corporation, Tokyo.

Processes and Materials

WÄ

Heat Treatment

Contract finishing of metal components using hardening and tempering processes, including vacuum hardening, nitriding and low-pressure carburizing.

IH

Induction Hardening (HF/ZF/MF)

Partial surface hardening of even complex-shaped workpieces by means of electromagnetic induction.

VB

Vacuum Hardening

Hardening under protective atmosphere in vacuum for low-distortion, oxide-free components.

NT

Nitriding / Nitrocarburizing

Thermochemical treatment to increase the wear and fatigue strength of steel components.

VK

Low-Pressure Carburizing

Carburizing at low pressure for deep carburizing depth and uniform surface hardness.

EH

Case Hardening / Carbonitriding

Hardening of components with a soft core and wear-resistant surface zone.

VG

Quenching and Tempering / Hardening and Tempering

Heat treatment to establish defined strength and toughness properties.
