About the Winery
The Viennese winery Zahel cultivates vineyards in Vienna's wine-growing zones, such as the Großlage Maurerberg (vineyard sites Kroissberg and Sätzen) as well as the Großlage Laaerberg (vineyard site Goldberg in Oberlaa). It produces organic and Demeter wines according to biodynamic guidelines, including Wiener Gemischter Satz DAC, Grüner Veltliner, Sauvignon Blanc, Gelber Muskateller, Orangetraube, St. Laurent, Pinot Noir and Blaufränkisch, as well as cuvées such as Antares Grande Reserve. The grapes are harvested by hand and fermented partly spontaneously in stainless steel tanks, partly in wooden barrels, clay amphorae (Tava) or as natural wines with minimal intervention. In addition to wine production, the family-owned business operates a traditional Heuriger tavern with Viennese cuisine and an online shop with wine shipping to Austria and Germany. In 2024, 9.035 kg of CO2 were saved through the handover of waste cooking fat to Münzer Bioindustrie.
