About the Winery
Founded in 1947, the Nik Weis - St. Urbans-Hof winery in Leiwen on the Mosel is run in its third generation by Nik Weis and his family. The roughly 50 hectares of vineyards extend over about 60 kilometres along the Mosel and Saar, spread across seven sites; five single vineyards are classified as VDP.Grosse Lage. The main grape variety grown is Riesling, complemented by a small share of Pinot varieties in the estate wine range. Around 30 different wines are produced each year, made in the traditional way and in harmony with nature, and fermented exclusively with natural yeasts. The winery is a founding member of the sustainable viticulture initiative FAIR'N GREEN and has been a member of the Verband Deutscher Prädikatsweingüter (VDP) since 2000. With the founding of the estate, one of the first private vine nurseries in Germany was established, which to this day supplies Riesling growers on the Mosel and worldwide with new vines.
