About Weinmanufaktur Kasel
Weinmanufaktur Kasel e.G. is a winery cooperative in Kasel in the Ruwer Valley near Trier, part of the Mosel wine-growing region. Founded on 08.09.1934 by 13 winemakers out of economic hardship, just two years later 32 winemaker families from Kasel, Mertesdorf and Waldrach already belonged to the cooperative. The cooperative exclusively produces Riesling wines in the steep slopes on the banks of the Ruwer; the vineyard sites include Kaseler Nies'chen, Kaseler Kehrnagel, Kaseler Herrenberg, Kaseler Dominikanerberg, Kaseler Timpert and Kaseler Hitzlay. The working method comprises manual cultivation of the steep slopes, yield reduction, hand harvesting and individual vinification of the wines. The goal is slender, filigree Rieslings with minerality and low alcohol content, shaped by the Devonian slate soil on the Ruwer. According to its own statements, Weinmanufaktur Kasel e.G. is one of the smallest winery cooperatives in Germany; today 12 winemakers participate part-time and on a voluntary basis.
