About Wessling Robotics

Wessling Robotics GmbH was founded in 2013 as a spin-off from the German Aerospace Center (DLR), Robotics and Mechatronics Center, and is based in Weßling near Oberpfaffenhofen. The company develops and manufactures multisensory, humanoid robotic hands based on the DLR/HIT Hand II, which was awarded the IF Design Award. The Agile Hand consists of five identical, modularly constructed robots with integrated actuators, electronics, and torque and position sensors in every actuated joint. With 21 joints, 15 or 16 degrees of freedom, 10 N of active fingertip force, and 360°/s joint speed, it is designed for sensitive gripping tasks and human-robot collaboration. Control is performed via active compliant control based on multisensory real-time feedback data with a 1 kHz control rate; a cross-platform API is available for C++, Python, and ROS. Customers include research institutes in Europe as well as industrial partners such as KUKA; prosthetics applications are under development. In 2023, Wessling Robotics GmbH was acquired by Agile Robots SE.
