The Viennese Soap Manufactory

WIENER SEIFE GmbH is a Vienna soap manufactory that produces cold-process natural soaps according to a recipe of the last Viennese soap boiler, Friedrich Weiss. The range comprises around 70 soap varieties for hands, face, hair, body and baby, as well as shaving, household and hotel soaps. Production uses the cold-process method: the heat of the saponification of lye and coconut oil is harnessed, so that valuable ingredients such as natural glycerin and unsaponified plant oils are preserved. The base mass is produced in 50-kg blocks, which after several days of curing are cut into 125-gram pieces and packaged in recycled-paper bands – all steps carried out by hand, partly on a cutting machine that is over a hundred years old. Natural oils and extracts are used, such as coconut, olive, apricot kernel and neem oil, healing clay and primordial rock salt, sourced wherever possible from certified organic cultivation, without chemical additives, mineral oils or preservatives. Customers are end consumers as well as the hotel and wellness industry; distribution is via a factory store with museum, branches, boutiques and an online shop.
