About WiRTH Der Kinderladen
WiRTH 'Der Kinderladen' was a family business founded in 1925 in Mainz, run by the Demmler-Wirth family in its second, third and fourth generations. On 2,000 m² of retail space across five interconnected buildings on five floors with three elevators, the store combined baby equipment, children's and youth fashion, fine toys as well as model railways, and at times carried over 60,000 different items. Up to 70 employees served customers with expert advice, services such as the stroller mobility guarantee and educator tips, as well as mail order. The product range followed its own concept of quality, functionality, design and pedagogy with materials including wood and plastic. Due to the economic consequences of the Corona crisis and with no revenue while costs continued, the store had to close permanently on 30.12.2025 after more than 100 years. The website now documents the company's history.
