About Wöhlk Contactlinsen

Wöhlk Contactlinsen GmbH is a German contact lens manufacturer headquartered in Schönkirchen near Kiel. Heinrich Wöhlk invented the modern rigid gas-permeable contact lens in 1946; since 1947 the company has been manufacturing lenses and to this day produces all lenses in its own plant in Schönkirchen. The product range includes soft exchange lenses (spherical, toric and multifocal daily and monthly exchange lenses), rigid gas-permeable lenses (RGP) as well as special series and custom-made lenses for individual eye shapes. The materials for individual lenses are produced in the company's own R&D department, and its own measuring instruments are also developed. Lens manufacturing uses mold production systems, an automatic conversion kit machine, Optocraft measurement technology and ultrasonic measurement; RGP lenses receive a plasma treatment. The product range is distributed via opticians and ophthalmologists, among others in cooperation with Carl Zeiss (ZEISS Contact Day 1), and as a subsidiary of SEED Co., Ltd. As a medical device manufacturer, the company maintains a quality system certified to MDR and EN ISO 13485.
