About WPX Faserkeramik
WPX Faserkeramik GmbH develops, produces and distributes high-performance components made from the ceramic fiber composite material WHIPOX, an oxide fiber-reinforced oxide composite originally developed at DLR in Cologne for turbine components and heat shields. The company was spun off from DLR and established itself in Troisdorf around twelve years ago, where development, production and sales take place at the same site. Manufacturing encompasses the production of ceramic compounds, CNC-controlled winding technology for high-performance fibers, automated infiltration, machining of fiber ceramic green bodies by shaping, grinding, sawing and milling, as well as drying, firing and finishing processes with integrated quality assurance. WHIPOX components are thermal-shock resistant, non-brittle, corrosion- and oxidation-resistant and are suitable for applications under oxidizing or corrosive atmospheres. Product examples include burner nozzles and tubes, charge and workpiece carriers, transport systems, electromagnetically transparent components for induction systems as well as a 0.5 mm thin fiber ceramic fire protection foil for battery fire protection in electric vehicles. Since August 1, 2026, WPX has been part of the HKO Group in Oberhausen; brand, team, product development and production remain in Troisdorf.
