ZELM Ex e.K. was a testing and certification body based in Braunschweig for explosion-protected equipment. The company was founded in 1993 by Harald Zelm, previously the officer responsible for explosion protection at the Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt, as a consultancy and was accredited as ZELM Ex in 1998. On 2 December 1998, the body was notified in Brussels as a notified body under ATEX 95 with the number 0820. Its range of services included the testing and certification of electrical equipment for use in potentially explosive areas as well as the certification of QS systems and explosion protection consulting. The body most recently comprised twelve employees. Since August 2016, the services and certifications of ZELM Ex e.K. have been continued by Primara Test- und Zertifizier-GmbH.
