Family business since 1889 – We bring stones to life
Zement- und Kalkwerke Otterbein GmbH & Co. KG is a long-established family business in its 5th generation, founded in 1889 by Georg Otterbein through the merger of smaller lime kilns in Großenlüder-Müs. At its Hesse site, the natural raw material limestone is used to produce a range of over 100 products in the cement, lime, plaster and mortar segments as well as mineral paints. The processes include quarry operation with GPS-supported borehole preparation, limestone granulation and drying, lime burning in a cement rotary kiln plant, and the development of customer-specific binder mixes such as Terrafix and Okafix. Products include Portland, Portland-composite and blast furnace cements, white limes according to EN 459-1, Natural Hydraulic Limes up to NHL 5 and, since 2017, PROMPT FIX cement (Roman cement from VICAT), distributed exclusively for Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Customers include the construction materials processing industry (ready-mixed concrete, dry mortars, aerated concrete), civil, road and structural engineering, heritage conservation, agriculture, forestry and pond farming, as well as industrial environmental protection for water treatment and air purification. Reference projects include, among others, the ICE new Cologne–Frankfurt line, the runway renovation of Frankfurt Airport (Fraport) and the Alsfeld-Elbenrod wind farm.
