K.A. Schmersal GmbH & Co. KG was founded in 1945 as a family business in Wuppertal and is one of the internationally leading providers in the field of machine safety. The company develops and produces around 18,000 different switching devices, including safety switches, safety interlocks, safety sensors, safety relay modules, safety controllers as well as optoelectronic safety devices such as light barriers and light curtains. The product range also includes Ex switching devices in accordance with the ATEX directive and switching devices for elevator technology. The level of in-house manufacturing is high: at the Wuppertal headquarters, more than 30 plastic injection molding machines with clamping forces of up to 100 tons operate in automated production, and the in-house toolmaking shop produces the injection molds. In machining, conventional and CNC machining centers are used for housings and components made of metal; electronics manufacturing takes place in Wuppertal and Wettenberg with SMD assembly and wave soldering. Through its service division tec.nicum, Schmersal offers manufacturer-neutral safety consulting, engineering, software integration and training. With eight production sites on four continents and subsidiaries in over 60 countries, the company supplies industries ranging from mechanical engineering and food and packaging technology to the semiconductor industry.

The Schmersal Group operates a cross-site quality management system certified to DIN EN ISO 9001 at all production sites.
