OWIS GmbH was founded in 1980 in Staufen im Breisgau and develops and manufactures optomechanical components, beam guidance systems as well as manual and motorised positioners for high-tech industries. The modular product range comprises more than 1,200 products from which OWIS Engineering develops custom alignment, handling and multi-axis systems with up to 9 axes, including portal and gantry solutions as well as optics boxes and OEM solutions. In-house CNC manufacturing at the company headquarters produces components in the micrometre range, predominantly made of low-distortion aluminium and POM. Components and systems are designed for applications in high vacuum, ultra-high vacuum and, since 2019, in extremely high vacuum (XHV), and are made cleanroom-compatible through surface treatments; assembly and interferometric measurement of the cleanroom products take place in the company's own ISO Class 5 cleanroom, and suitability for UHV and XHV is verified by residual gas analysis. Customers include photonics, laser processing, metrology and machine vision, semiconductor technology, analytics and biotechnology, medical technology, sensor technology, as well as research and science. The owner-managed company with around 50 employees supplies customers through more than 23 representative offices worldwide.
