About Saras

Saras SpA was founded in 1962 by Angelo Moratti and is an Italian energy company based at the industrial site of Sarroch in Sardinia. Its core business is oil refining: the Sarroch refinery processes around 15 million tonnes of crude oil per year (equivalent to 300,000 barrels per day) and, with a Nelson Index of 11.7, is one of the most technically complex refineries in the Mediterranean region. The main products produced and marketed are diesel, gasoline, heating oil, liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), virgin naphtha and aviation fuel, mainly for the Italian and Spanish markets as well as other European and non-European countries. Since 2000, power generation has complemented the refinery business: the IGCC power plant (Integrated Gasification Combined Cycle) with 575 MW of installed capacity covers over 45% of Sardinia's electricity demand. In addition, the group generates around 250 GWh of renewable electricity per year through wind farms in Ulassai and Macchiareddu with a total capacity of 171 MW. In 2024, the Vitol Group acquired the shares of the Moratti family and delisted the Saras shares from Euronext Milan.
