About SECH SA

SECH SA, headquartered in Villaz-St-Pierre (Switzerland), designs, develops and delivers tailored energy storage and power supply solutions based on ultracapacitors (supercapacitors). The portfolio includes cells (small, medium size and large cells as well as hybrid ultracapacitors HUC), modules and custom systems including balancing and monitoring electronics, CAN communication interface and power electronics with DC/DC converters. The electrode technology is fully mastered in-house: activated carbon with a patented, optimized pore structure is applied to current collectors, processed into capacitor windings with separators, installed in hermetically sealed housings made of pure aluminum, joined by laser welding and impregnated with a high-performance electrolyte. While research and product development take place mainly in Switzerland, manufacturing is carried out exclusively in China at GMCC Electronic Technology WUXI Ltd, a sister company of SECH within the Sieyuan Group. Customers are OEMs, distributors and end users in the fields of automotive, transportation, power grid and UPS, renewable energy and industry. SECH is a one hundred percent subsidiary of Sieyuan Electric Co. Ltd, a listed Chinese company in the electrical power technology sector.

Materials and Processes

Aktivkohle

Activated, structure-optimized carbon powder

Electrode material with a patented, optimized pore size distribution for high capacitance, low internal resistance and electrochemical stability.

Al

Pure aluminum

Used for cell housings, electrical contacts and current collectors.

Elektrolyt

High-performance electrolyte

Used for impregnating the capacitor winding after drying; ions are matched to the pore sizes of the activated carbon.

Sep

Separator material

Processed together with the electrodes into the capacitor winding in an automated process.

HUC

Hybrid ultracapacitor cells (HUC)

Combine ultracapacitor with lithium battery properties (2.8–4.2 V, up to 77 Wh/kg, charging/discharging at up to 50C/80C).

Dry-Electrode

Dry electrode process

Productive production of dry electrodes since 2025 in the new 25,000 m² facility in Wuxi.
