ShapeFab is a technology company based in Jena, specializing in high-precision 5-axis CNC machining of technical glass, fused silica, and technical ceramics. The company manufactures custom one-off and series components made of brittle-hard materials – from prototypes and lot size 1 through to recurring series orders. The integrated process chain enables grinding, lapping, and polishing in a single setup, achieving tolerances down to ±3 µm and surface roughness below 8 nm (Ra). Materials machined include fused silica, Borosilicate glass, N-BK7, Zerodur, Sapphire, Perlocur, as well as the ceramics Al₂O₃, SiC, ZrO₂, and Si₃N₄. Components up to dimensions of 400 x 500 x 200 mm can be realized. In addition to manufacturing, ShapeFab supports customers with material consulting and design for manufacturability; production is exclusively to customer drawings. Every component is inspected using multisensor coordinate measuring technology. The focus industries are optics and precision engineering / mechanical engineering.
