About Sionic Smart Glass
Sionic Smart Glass GmbH is a high-tech start-up from the Technology Park Dortmund that develops and manufactures micro-optical functional films and intelligent glass solutions for buildings. Based on a roll-to-roll production line in an ISO-5 cleanroom, the company produces solar control, thermal and micro-louver films as well as switchable privacy and solar control films on coated PET films up to 1.5 m in width and of unlimited length. The processes include vacuum coating, wet coating, UV and IR curing and nanoimprint structuring. From these films, the company manufactures insulating glass units with integrated functional film, switchable privacy glass in laminated safety glass and adaptive solar control glass. For existing buildings, films are retrofitted, glazing is replaced without window replacement, and energetic window analyses and BAFA subsidy consulting are offered. Customers include the building and glass facade industry, window construction and the renovation of existing real estate including listed buildings. Founder and managing director is Dr. Oliver Humbach.

Materials and Processes
Coated PET film
Substrate of the functional films, e.g. 75 μm solar control films, 300 μm micro-louver film and 500 μm adaptive film, with adhesive layer and protective film.
Vacuum coating
Application of nanometer-thin layer systems such as IR and UV blockers onto film webs up to 1.5 m width.
Wet coating
Coating process of roll-to-roll production for functional layers on PET.
Nanoimprint structuring
Microstructuring of the films, among other things for micro-louvers and angle-dependent transmission.
UV and IR curing
Curing of the coatings in the continuous roll process.
Insulating glass with integrated functional film
Manufacture of thermal and solar control insulating glass units with centrally tensioned film up to Ug 0.5 W/m²K.
Laminated safety glass with laminated film
Lamination of switchable privacy film for interior applications such as partitions and meeting rooms.
