About TwinWatt

TwinWatt is a startup from Darmstadt that develops compact vertical wind turbines for roofs, industrial sites and urban locations. The turbine with two counter-rotating rotors and special wind deflector elements achieves a rated output of 12–15 kW, starts at a wind speed of 1.5 m/s and remains exempt from approval below 10 m height. The deflector elements increase the wind speed by a factor of 2.1; the vertical rotor principle enables low-noise operation without shadow flicker and without bird risk. The modular turbine is designed for 24/7 operation, also in combination with photovoltaics, and can be installed on roofs, parking lots or in courtyards. The design, computational engineering and flow-optimization are complete; the first prototype parts were tested in 2025. The core technology was patented in December 2023.
